What is a Filling?

A filling is a procedure that repairs tooth damage, including cavities, which result from tooth decay. Fillings not only seal off spaces where bacteria can enter; they also prevent further decay from causing serious issues that require more extensive procedures, such as root canals.

Our Filling Procedure

Depending on the size of your cavity, your dentist may numb your tooth area using a local anaesthetic. From there, he or she will remove any decay from the tooth and prepare it for filling. Your dentist will then apply, harden and polish the filling to seal off the clean cavity area.

Types of Fillings

The most common types of fillings in the dental industry are gold fillings, amalgam (silver) fillings, composite (plastic/white) resins and porcelain fillings. Discuss with your dentist the best option for your specific circumstance.
